About DAR
Do you have a patriot in your family tree? Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) honors and preserves the legacy of American patriots who fought and sacrificed during the American Revolution for the freedoms we enjoy today. Members of the DAR have an opportunity to honor their own patriot ancestors by actively supporting historic preservation, promoting education, and patriotic endeavors. The DAR is a lineage society that is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to historic preservation, education, and patriotism. We help educate our students and recognize the special accomplishments of young people. We work to preserve our history and historic sites. We welcome our new citizens and introduce them to life in America. We also help care for our veterans and their families. Membership Eligibility Any woman is eligible for membership in the DAR who is no less than eighteen years of age and can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. National Society The DAR was founded in 1890. Located in our nation's capital, just two blocks from the White House, the DAR National Headquarters occupies a full city block and ranks as one of the largest buildings of its kind owned and maintained exclusively by women. For more information visit the NSDAR website (www.dar.org). Click here to watch and learn more about the organization from the DAR YouTube video entitled Today's DAR. |
